College/Department Information

 

The Simulated Patient Education Research (SPEAR) Center is the primary healthcare simulation resource for the healthcare training programs of Augusta University. Our mission is to provide Augusta University health professions programs with the environment and expertise necessary to design, develop, implement, and evaluate high-quality simulation-based education.

Job Summary

 

The Simulation Operations Technician supports the daily execution of simulation-based educational activities within the Simulated Patients for Education, Assessment, and Research (SPEAR) Center. This entry-level role contributes to creating, maintaining, and resetting realistic, safe, and well-organized simulated clinical environments. Simulation Operations Technicians work under the guidance of Simulation Operations Specialists and provide essential operational, technical, and logistical support before, during, and after simulation activities.

There are two full-time schedules available:

  • Opening Technician: 6:30 AM -3:30 PM
  • Closing Technician: 9:30 AM -6:30 PM

Responsibilities

 

The duties include, but are not limited to:

SIMULATION OPERATIONS SUPPORT:

  • Assist with the setup, execution, and takedown of simulation activities, assessments, and training sessions. 
  • Prepare simulation rooms to accurately represent clinical environments using real and simulated medical equipment, supplies, and furnishings. 
  • Reset spaces between events according to established standards and checklists. 
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of simulation rooms, storage areas, prep spaces, and common areas. 
  • Stock, organize, and restock linens and consumable supplies and assist with basic inventory tracking. 
  • Follow established workflows, schedules, and standard operating procedures to ensure smooth daily operations. 

EDUCATIONAL EVENT SUPPORT:

  • Provide logistical and operational support during educational activities, assessments, and skills training events. 
  • Assist with orienting learners, faculty, staff, and standardized patients to the physical simulation environment as directed. 
  • Monitor rooms and spaces during events to ensure supplies, equipment, and environments remain prepared and functional. 
  • Contribute to a professional and welcoming experience for learners, faculty, staff, and visitors. 

OPENING & CLOSING DUTIES (SCHEDULE DEPENDENT)

OPENING TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Open the Simulation Center and ensure readiness for the day¿s scheduled activities. 
  • Power on equipment and check rooms and common areas for cleanliness, safety, and readiness. 
  • Prepare initial room setups and supplies for morning events. 
  • Communicate readiness or issues to Simulation Operations Specialists. 
  • Provide lobby coverage to assist with sign-in processes in the absence of the Scheduling Coordinator. 

CLOSING TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support end-of-day event teardowns and room resets. 
  • Power down equipment and secure simulation spaces. 
  • Ensure supplies are restocked and spaces are organized for the following day. 
  • Assist with closing procedures and report any equipment or facility concerns. 
  • Provide lobby coverage to assist with sign-out processes in the absence of the Scheduling Coordinator. 

IT, AV, AND TELE-SIMULATION ASSISTANCE:

  • Assist with setup, operation, and storage of basic IT, audiovisual, and recording equipment. 
  • Provide first-level troubleshooting for common AV or connectivity issues. 
  • Support tele-simulation or remote activities by assisting with equipment setup and monitoring connections under supervision. 
  • Escalate significant technical issues or trends to the Simulation Technology Specialist and the Director of Operations. 

OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENT, TEAM COLLABORATION, & PROFESSIONAL CONTRIBUTION:

  • Participate in Operations team meetings and provide feedback on workflows and daily operations. 
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement to Specialists and Senior staff. 
  • Adapt to updated processes and support consistent execution of established workflows. 
  • Demonstrate a team-first mindset by contributing to the success of colleagues and the broader SPEAR Center, utilizing downtime to support operational needs beyond primary assignments. 
  • Demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, and accountability in a dynamic academic environment.

Required Qualifications

 

High School diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accrediting organization and1 year of related experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

 

Associate degree from an Accredited College or University.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt in real time.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

 

Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Band: B7

Salary: $42,200.00/Annually-$50,700.00/Annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
