Academic Advisement is where undergraduates begin. Our centralized advisement services are designed to provide comprehensive support as students navigate their way into their respective major programs. Our team of Undergraduate Academic Advisors are well-versed in the undergraduate programs and core curriculum, assisting students in developing academic plans, selecting courses, recommending actions, and connecting them with campus resources as needed.
We work closely with academic programs and support services to help students identify and confirm their academic career paths. Our professional advisors offer ongoing support through various means including outreach services, personal phone calls, targeted emails, and electronic messages.

We have two convenient locations, on the second floor of University Hall (262) on the Summerville campus and the Health Sciences Campus. We are open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We offer walk-in hours for quick consultations. Our most up-to-date walk-in hours can be found via the Academic Advisement Center Staff webpage. Advising appointments are required for next term advisement to ensure both the advisor and student are prepared for a productive session. Job Summary
The Assistant Director (AD) is a part of the Academic Success and Planning (ASP) leadership team within the department of the Academic Advisement Center. The AD provides supervision in the department for full-time Academic and Career Advisors (professional staff) in addition to advisement in one of three meta-major specific areas: 1) Science and Mathematics 2) Business, Computing and Education and 3) Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. As one of three ADs in the department, the incumbent will work in collaboration with the other two ADs to support the overall student success and to carry out the university-wide academic advisement strategy at Augusta University. The AD establishes the tone for a student-centered, high-performance culture that emphasizes excellence in service, quality, productivity, and standards by Academic and Career Advisors. Reporting to the Director of the Advisement Center, the AD serves as primary administrator of technology systems and provides leadership and assistance in web-based technology, data collection, management, and reporting. In collaboration with the Director, the AD maintains operations, policies, and procedures consistent with student success initiatives. The incumbent will be required to develop and present workshops, and develop positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities
The duties include but are not limited to:
LEAD ADVISING PROGRAM: Participates on the ASP Leadership Team, providing leadership and support to cross-functional area initiatives in a blended student services unit. Leads the advising program, which involves the progress of students from orientation through graduation, overseeing the review of students' academic performance, ensuring the timeliness of the student communication cycle, analysis of degree progress trends, and overseeing advising related programming. Supports the Director in the development of annual goals for the Academic Advisement Center in collaboration with the AVP and staff. Contributes to the strategic planning process for ASP and ongoing evaluation for improvement of services.
LEAD INNOVATION OF ADVISING STRATEGIES: Provides leadership in the development of innovative strategies utilizing technology (i.e. Navigate, College Scheduler, Smart Guidance, Banner, etc.) to provide the highest level of student contact and service to contribute to student success goals. Regularly utilizes advising technology to generate reports on student trends, risk-indicators, usage data, etc. Communicates findings with constituents to assess the impact and effectiveness of ASP programming through data collection and analysis; contributes content to assessment plans and reports. Champions the following key advising projects to ensure continuity of quality: Academic probation/suspension, transfer students, dual enrollment students, student degree progress, advisor on-boarding and professional development. Ensures a close and productive relationship with Career Academic and Professional Engagement (CAPE) Directors, programmatic faculty, and appropriate campus schools.
STUDENT ADVISING: Manages a student caseload of advisees and coordinates adequate staffing for day-to-day campus operations and special events. Serves as one of three senior academic and career advisors and manages a caseload of advisees. Cross-trained in multiple majors, disciplines, and careers and assumes caseloads as needed. Monitors, advises, and tracks the retention, progression and graduation of all students within assigned population.
MANAGE STAFF: Manages full-time professional staff, including assigning student caseloads, responsibilities, mentoring, and performance evaluations to include promoting effective teamwork and communication among all departments and other campus units capable of improving success, persistence, and timely graduation, serving as a liaison to the associated academic colleges and departments, teaching at least one INQR 1000 focused section per year, serving on University committees as necessary, and anticipating issues and researching information needed as background for the work of the other unit or collegiate leaders.
OTHER: Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with more than five years of experience in academic advising, supervisory experience, experience in student and career development, and teaching a first-year experience course or professional experience in a college setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Academic Advising, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs and Higher Education, (psychological) Counseling, or other closely related field. Five years of full-time advising experience at the college/university level, exhibiting moderate growth in role; may include supervision or mentoring of others.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of student information systems (for example, BANNER) is preferred.
Knowledge of academic fields for advising disciplines.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Knowledge of Degree Audit tools (DegreeWorks is preferred) to inform advising and retention practices.
SKILLS
High degree of autonomy, strong initiative, self-guided and reflective.
Demonstrate skills with social media and be responsible for updating media content.
Prepare market materials such as newsletters and brochures.
Prepare materials/handouts for presentations at seminars, conferences and workshops.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively and to follow oral and written instructions.
Must be flexible and be able to prioritize and to function independently with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work cooperatively and diplomatically with superiors, peers, students, and outside agencies.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of the regular business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B10
Salary: $52,500/annually- $57,200/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
